Womens Clothing

Women’s clothing ranges from petite to super plus sized. The average woman is 5’3 inches tall, yet some women are as short as 4’11 and as tall as 6’2. When choosing sizes for women's clothing it is important to understand the terminology behind the size.

Women’s Clothing sizes are categorized by height and measurement. First we will take a look at height. Petite is referring to height and these clothes are tailored to fit the women size 4’11-5’3. So if you see WP, that would mean Women’s Petite and would fit a woman whose height is in the “Petite” range. Since not all grown women are in the “petite” category, you will also see W. W stands for “Women” and that category is for women whose height is from 5’3 - 5’7.

There is also the Misses and Talls category. Misses is like “Womens” only the measurement sizes are smaller than the Women’s category. So Misses is from height 5’3 – 5’7½; Talls are for heights 5’8- 5’11; and Ultra Talls are for heights 5’11 ½ - 6’2.

Now, when it comes to measurements the three main areas for measuring are the bust, the waist, and the hips. Sizes range from XS to 32W, which is the equivalent of a 5X. Many store will carry women’s sizes which are larger in their plus size department. When buying clothes it is important to make sure you are buying clothes that fit. Too many women have closets full of “skinny and fat” clothes; yet barely have anything they can wear at the present moment.

When measuring for sizes it is important to get an accurate reading. Here are some tips that will ensure that you are getting the proper measurements.

Six strategies to get you dressed (well) on the run

When measuring the bust/chest area, place the tape measure loosely under your arms and across the fullest part of your chest. Measure your natural waistline (that means no extended sucking in of the gut) keeping the tape measure loose. Finally, measure your hips at their fullest point; this is about 8 inches below your waistline. Again, keep the tape measure loose. With these measurements and the size charts on your clothing labels, you can ensure that you will have a perfect fit.
