Protective Clothing

We live in a dangerous world. Every day there are fires, chemical spills, explosions, and toxic chemicals released into the atmosphere. Protective clothing is a requirement in many jobs and for many careers.

Different occupations require specific protective clothing. Pesticide workers require protective clothing such as eyewear, footwear, head coverings, gloves, and coveralls. Besides being a source of protection, the protective clothing should also be comfortable and allow freedom of movement.

Other occupations require the use of protective aprons for their employees. These aprons are typically made of vinyl and provide protection from chemicals, ink, and paint. Vinyl aprons usually come in Light Duty, Medium Duty, and Heavy Duty weights.

Plastex has been manufacturing protective clothing since 1945. Some of their line consists of aprons- including heavy duty, water blasting suits, coveralls in lightweight, medium weight, and heavy weight, bouffant caps, beard guards, lab coats, non skid shoe covers, and sleeve guards.

Protective Clothing: Protection Versus Comfort

Some protective aprons are made of Vinyl while others are made of Neoprene /Nylon and PVC/ Polyester.

Tyvek makes disposable coveralls, shoe covers, boot covers, disposable smocks, suit shirts, coverall sleeves, coverall hoods, coverall pants, and suit hoods.

Firefighters require protective clothing; this is called “Turnout Gear”. Many of these include flame retardant Nomex and Pyrolon.

Not only do special occupations require the use of protective clothing, but many ordinary citizens find a need and use for protective clothing as well. Ponchos, raincoats, rain suits, double duty gloves, gardening clothes, and sun protection are all part of the average person’s protective clothing wardrobe.

Now, with the growing risk of skin cancer, you can purchase complete clothing lines equipped with UPF/SPF. You can find clothing available in baby, children, and adult sizes. Clothing such as swimsuits, shorts, and hats are all equipped with UV protection. For infants, you can purchase a Solar Baby Sun Blanket with SPF of 40; this is a perfect way to protect a baby at the beach or outdoors. Stingray even produces a line of clothing (including business shirts) with built in sun protection.
